Volunteers needed for upcoming events

🐾 Calling all compassionate souls! 🐾

Are you a student in need of volunteer hours for community service? Or perhaps you're someone with a heart for animals and a desire to make a difference? Look no further!

The Houlton Humane Society will have a booth selling drinks and trinkets during the Solar Eclipse event from April 5th to 8th to raise money for vet care, and we need your help to make it a success. Whether you're passionate about animals or simply eager to lend a hand, we welcome volunteers to join us in supporting this worthy cause.

Volunteering not only fulfills student’s community service requirements but also aids our furry friends in need. From assisting with setup and cleanup to interacting with guests and helping serve hot and cold drinks, there are plenty of ways to get involved and make a meaningful impact.

Don't miss this opportunity to give back to your community and make a difference in the lives of needy animals. Sign up today to volunteer at the Houlton Humane Society's Eclipse Fundraiser and participate in something special. Together, we can shine a light on compassion and kindness. 🌟

To volunteer, please contact the Houlton Humane Society or visit our website, houltonhumanesociety.us. Here is the link to sign up:

We appreciate your support!

If the eclipse doesn’t interest you, we need help with a monthly rabies clinic on March 16, the third Saturday of every month.

We also have a pasta dinner we need help with, set up, serve food, make desserts, and clean up. That is March 23. Please follow the link and sign up to help:

On-site Volunteers

Foster Families Program

Fostering is a program run by the Houlton Humane Society that allows us to place our pets in a home setting instead of keeping them cooped up at the shelter. It also helps them to be and stay socialized with people until they are adopted.

The program works this way:

  • Qualified applicants will be matched up with a cat or dog.

  • While the pet will be living with you, he will remain the property of the shelter.

  • The shelter will be actively looking to adopt your foster pet.

  • If you decide during fostering that you want to adopt the pet, contact the shelter manager.

  • If it becomes necessary for the foster pet to return to the shelter, contact the shelter manager to arrange for the pet to be returned.

Submit the online application below. Qualified applicants will be contacted to schedule a meet and greet with the eligible pets.

Senior to Senior Foster Program

Senior Fostering is a new program offered by the Houlton Humane Society that tries to match senior citizens with one of our older long-term cats. This program gives seniors the opportunity to have a pet without the expense of adoption or vet care.

The program works this way:

  • While the pet will be living with you, it will remain the property of the shelter.

  • The shelter will continue providing vet care, food and litter but the pet will be in your home instead of in a shelter environment.

  • The shelter will not be looking to adopt the pet so it will stay with you as long as you want.

  • If any time you are unable to continue fostering, the shelter will rehome the pet or take the animal back to the shelter.

Submit the online application below. Qualified applicants will be contacted to schedule a meet and greet with the eligible pets.

Senior to Senior Foster Program

The National Poll on Healthy Aging surveyed 2,051 adults aged 50 to 80 last fall, more than half of whom reported owning a pet. And 88% said that their pets helped them enjoy life, and 86% said their pets made them feel loved.
